In April 2002, New York photographer Hector R. Duran II documented rehearsals for Putnam, an Off-Broadway production written and directed by actress Sharon Fogarty, pictured in the ensemble portrait as the blonde woman wearing the black dress.
The photographs move between observation and design. Rehearsal frames record performers developing scenes, gestures, and relationships; the finished ensemble compositions transform that raw theatrical energy into promotional imagery with a distinct visual identity.
The camera did more than document the production—it preserved the personalities, movement, and collaborative spirit behind the performance.
This archive reflects Duran’s broader photographic practice: recognizing decisive human moments, directing groups, composing promotional images, and carrying a visual idea from rehearsal through final presentation.
